You're not doing this for yourself. Design is a partnership with some kind of use whether that be an individual, company, or municipality. The idea is that you're doing this for a purpose in conjunction with a lot of other interests that are not your own.

I could produce the most beautiful logo that's ever been created, but if it isn't connected to anybody desiring it for a use that they are going to have to apply it to, then it’s not worth anything. Design really is a problem you are solving, it isn't something you are producing.
